***Tiger Face***
Facial expression is so important in any Japanese subject. And the tiger is no exception. There is a balancing act between the flat, graphic power of traditional Japanese tattooing (along with woodblock prints of the Ukiyo-e era) and elements of the real objects as they appear in photographs. I try to retain some some features of traditional Japanese depictions, like big eyes, exaggerated jaw, etc, while including some of the expressive details of the real animal.
